Smoked oak - Why search far afield …
..when outstanding quality is so close at hand? Domestically produced wood is given a brilliant new look by office furniture manufacturer Stilo from Bühler in the Swiss Appenzellerland.
Constantly on the lookout for new and unique ideas, with smoked larch Stilo has created an exotic look for its exclusive L.One (desk system) and Face (modular system) product lines – while remaining true to its aim of using only domestically produced wood.
Up to now domestic Swiss larch has been used just for rustic furniture and not for high-quality home or office furnishings. Stilo already uses smoked oak produced in a totally natural process without the application of colour pigments. The smoking process (involving a reaction with the wood's own constituents) is now being used to process and reinterpret domestic larch. The finished product radiates warmth, elegance and a touch of the exotic. Smoking improves the durability and non-fade characteristics of the wood.
